AUTUMN

Autumn

This week we have been learning about Autumn. We talked about the changes that we can see and feel around us.

At Kindy we have Autumn trees – the leaves are beginning to change from green, yellow and then they fall off.

We learnt that Autumn trees are deciduous. We also learnt that trees that keep their leaves all year are called Evergreen trees.

The autumn tree loses it’s leaves as it is preparing to slow down and    s l e e p    during winter.

We collected autumn leaves to make the pictures below. We placed our leaf on a piece of material on a piece of wood, popped a piece of paper on the top, then hammered on the top with a rock. The rock crushed the leaf and the juice made a pattern on our material.

.

.

.

.

We also made an observational drawing of an autumn leaf. We cut it out, then placed it onto our paper. We put a screen over the top and with a toothbrush we made a ‘splatter’ painting, using autumn colors – red, yellow and orange.

GROSS MOTOR SKILLS ACTIVITY DAY

GROSS MOTOR SKILLS ACTIVITY DAY

We had the opportunity of using one of our neighbour’s tennis court to set up five different Gross Motor activities.

Instead of going outside at Kindy Kidz, we lined up, and walked across to the tennis court.

The activities included:

- pedaling a tricycle;

- obstacle course – under and over;

- hop scotch;

- elastics – jumping with two feet over the elastic;

- ball skills.

We had so much fun. We were in small groups and we rotated around each activity.

.

.

.

.

We will now further develop our Gross Motor Skills during outside time at Kindy.

Fluffy and Cookie at Zinc Cafe

Fluffy and Cookie at Zinc Cafe

After our visit from Ruben, we decided we should go for a walk outside the Kindy gates, along the footpath, and across the road, to practice what Ruben told us.

On our walk, we stopped to cross the road, we STOPPED, LOOKED, LISTENED and LINKED, then we crossed the road with the teachers.

On the footpath we had to look out for those ‘sneaky driveways’.

We walked all the way down to the Queenwood shops. Here we all posted a special letter to our Mums and Dads in the mailbox, then had a fluffy and a cookie at Zinc Cafe. We all used our best ‘cafe manners’ as a cafe is a very special place to go to.

.

.

.

.

We enjoyed our fluffy and cookie. We all paid for our own, and we had to go inside the cafe to give the lady our money.

Ruben the Road Safety Bear

Ruben the Road Safety Bear

Ruben came to Kindy to visit us. He taught us how to cross the road safely and how to be safe on the footpath, by looking out for ‘sneaky driveways’.

Ruben taught us his special dance and we danced with him.

.

.

Ruben taught us rules to cross the road – Stop, Look, Listen and Link.

.

.

Ruben was very friendly and we enjoyed holding his hand while he crossed the pedestrian crossing with us.

.

.

.

Ruben also reminded us that we have to wear our seat belts and we need to make it go CLICK before we go out in the car.

And… if we ride our bikes, we need to keep our heads safe, and wear a helmet to protect ourselves.

Thank you for coming to visit us Ruben!

Extreme Edge

Extreme Edge Climbzone

We went on a trip to Extreme Edge Climbzone.

It was amazing trip.

.

.

.

When we got there, we were all fitted with a harness. The harness ensures that we stay safe whilst we are climbing up the walls. The children were shown safety tips first, then they were allowed to choose their own walls.

.

.

Some of the children had done it before and were a little more confident. Some children had never tried it, so they were a little scared, but then they persevered and were able to climb up some of the way.

School Visit

School Visit to Te Rapa School

.

Our oldest group went on a school visit to Te Rapa School.

We had organised to meet up with Jane who was going to show us all around the school and take us into the classroom.

.

.

We had a look in the library where all the books are.

.

.

In Jane’s classroom we sat on the mat and she read us a story.

We then drew a picture about the story.

.

.

.

We used beautiful ‘mat time’ manners and looked like big school children.

.

.

.

We were shown were the toilets where.  We enjoyed going to school.

We are going to come back again in May for a whole morning!

Kindy Concert…

The children practiced and practiced for our Kindy Concert.

We performed our concert at Kindy.

We had set up the curtains so that it looked like we had a stage.

The children performed very well. :)

.

They were a little hesitant at first on stage as there were lots of mums, dads, nanas and grandads.

.

.

The children changed their costumes after every item.  They looked great!!!

Chickens

We have had an exciting few weeks at kindy…

.

We put 8 chicken eggs in an incubator…  we had to wait 21 days for our chickens to hatch..

Each day we looked at how the chicken was growing inside the egg.  It was very interesting to see the eggs develop over the 21 days.

.

.

When the 21st day finally came around we arrived at Kindy and there was only 7 eggs…. and a chicken!!

.

.

.

Throughout the day we kept checking the eggs and we could see some wriggling around and some had cracks…

At lunch time we were able to watch the chicken hatch out of the egg, it was very exciting.  Slowly we had another 4 chickens hatch.

We kept them warm inside the incubator before changing them to a container with a heat lamp.  They were drinking lots of water and eating lots of food.

The chickens are getting bigger and bigger….

Mystery Bus Trip

Mystery Bus Trip… The Kindy Kidz Christmas Party!

The day had finally arrived…  we were going on the “Mystery Bus Trip”!

.

As the children arrived at Kindy, they found their group and were given a few key accessories that they needed for the days activities including: a candy cane head band with coloured spots; a ticket for the bus and activities; a named bag with a cup and some snacks so they had enough energy for the activities.

.

We all boarded the bus, no knowing what direction we would be going, or where our final destination would be…  We were a little nervous with the weather as it started to rain a little on the bus trip, but luckily it stopped  when we arrived at our destination… a Winter Wonderland.

.

We split up into our coloured groups and followed our flag to our first activity!

The activities included….

.

The Bouncy Castle Slide…

.

.

The Jeeps…

.

.

The Horses…

.

.

The Wobbly Train…

.

.

and The Train…

.

.

Then we had an exciting treasure hunt… we searched for the clues and followed the instructions to find the treasure at the end…

.

.

While we were singing and dancing along with the Christmas songs… Santa arrived in a flash red car

.

.

.

Santa led us to a special party…

.

.

.

.

.

.

We hope the children all had a fantastic day!!

A big THANK YOU to the staff from Kindy Totz, Kindy Tweenz and Kindy Kidz who helped to create our

magical winter wonderland!
